Donald Trump’s proposed space force moves forward: the US president ordered the Pentagon on Tuesday to draft a bill to create a “Space Force” as the sixth entity of the United States armed forces.
“We must be ready,” said Donald Trump, signing the fourth space directive of his mandate in the Oval Office, which details the organization and powers needed for this new entity. “My government has made the creation of a special force a matter of national security.”

This space force seeks, for example, to protect American satellites against any physical attack by coalition with another object or by a missile, as well as any attempt at piracy or interference by adversaries and the development of offensive capabilities in space.
It will have the responsibility to protect American interests and to “deter all aggression” against the United States or its allies, according to the presidential text that talks about both defensive and offensive media.
Donald Trump announced in June 2018 the creation of a force “separate but equal” to the other five Army, Air Force, Navy, Marine Corps and US Coast Guard, but the process is long and depends on Congress, which should adopt the reorganization.
In the beginning, the “Space Force” will adopt the figure of military command within the Air Force. After it has the endorsement of Congress it will become a force in its own right with its chief of staff and under an undersecretary of Space, but still under the Air Force, as the bodies of marines operating in the Navy.
All military and civilian personnel working in the space field and in the Pentagon satellites, rockets, weapons, technology will be regrouped under a single command.
The president’s text referred to the independence of the Air Force’s space force in an indeterminate future. “We have many new defensive and offensive weapons created especially for that purpose and we are going to exploit them,” he said.
